I spend a LOT of time looking over family photos at times, and the photo featured in this video is one of my very favorites. I love it for the four generations captured in one frame, but also for the details of each of the people: their hands, their eyes, their posture… I know it’s just ink on a page in a pattern, but it is remarkable to me how much meaning one photograph can have. This song zooms in on the fundamental question of the whole album: How does understanding the lives of our ancestors help us understand our own?
